Historic Townhouse Ductless Comfort

A preservation-listed townhouse meant traditional ductwork was off the table entirely - the plaster ceilings and original trim couldn't be touched, and the historic commission's approval process ruled out anything that altered the building's exterior profile. We designed a four-zone ductless mini-split system instead, routing line sets discreetly through closets and existing chases so the exterior and interior finishes stayed untouched, and selected indoor units small enough to tuck above door frames rather than dominate a wall. Each zone gets its own wireless controller, letting the owners heat and cool only the rooms they're using instead of conditioning the whole townhouse at once. The full install, from first site survey to final walkthrough, took two days without a single wall opened up or a single piece of original trim disturbed.
